EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Among the players cut by the New York Giants on Tuesday as they trimmed their roster to 53 were veteran wide receivers Allen Robinson II and Isaiah Hodgins, the team announced in a news release.

Robinson and Hodgins were stuck behind the Giants’ younger receivers and didn’t have significant special teams value as the team’s potential fifth or sixth receivers. It made them expendable on the NFL’s cut-down day.

But perhaps the most significant move for the Giants was keeping Tommy DeVito. Coach Brian Daboll told reporters that the team will roster three quarterbacks this season, something it did not do during the first two years under him and general manager Joe Schoen.

“The roster’s fluid,” Daboll said. “There’s a lot of things that are still being discussed right now. But this is the original, if you will, 53 [man roster].”

DeVito, the undrafted rookie who became a local cult hero as a rookie last season, is part of a quarterback room that includes starter Daniel Jones and Drew Lock. The Giants signed Lock to a one-year, fully guaranteed deal worth $5 million to be the backup this season.

Robinson, 31, signed a one-year contract with just $25,000 fully guaranteed this offseason. He spent most of the summer working with the second-team offense.

He is entering his 11th professional season. He spent last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Editor’s Picks

Robinson has 562 catches for 7,028 yards and 43 touchdowns for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Rams and Steelers. He had three catches for 23 yards for the Giants this preseason.

Hodgins, 25, was a key contributor for the Giants after getting claimed off waivers from the Buffalo Bills during the 2022 season. He started seven games, including two in the postseason, immediately after joining the team.

Hodgins had over 100 yards receiving and a touchdown in a playoff win over the Minnesota Vikings that maiden season in New York. He had eight total touchdowns in his two seasons with the Giants.

Among other cuts by the Giants were wide receiver Miles Boykin; tight ends Lawrence Cager, Jack Stoll and Jakob Johnson; running back Dante Miller; offensive linemen Jimmy Morrissey, Joshua Miles, Jalen Mayfield and Marcellus Johnson; defensive tackle Casey Rogers; inside linebackers Darrian Beavers and K.J. Cloyd; outside linebacker Tomon Fox; cornerbacks Darnay Holmes, Tre Herndon, David Long Jr. and Alex Johnson; safety Raheem Layne; and kicker Jude McAtamney.
