TRENDING RUMORS

– Liverpool have identified Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong as their No. 1 potential replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, according to TeamTalk. The Reds are reported to be preparing for their vice-captain’s departure, and they believe that Netherlands international Frimpong is their best option from a four-man shortlist. Competition could emerge from Manchester City, as City see the 23-year-old as a successor to Kyle Walker.

– Manchester United have RB Leipzig and Germany international defender David Raum in their sights amid their search for a left-back, says Sky Sports Deutschland’s Florian Plettenberg. The 26-year-old is reported to be a “very good fit” for manager Ruben Amorim’s system, with the Red Devils keeping tabs on his development. Raum has made six Bundesliga appearances this season, and talks were held last summer regarding a potential switch to Old Trafford.

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Xavi Simons could be allowed to leave for €80m next summer, reports The Athletic. The Netherlands international has caught the eye with some fine performances for RB Leipzig while out on loan for the past two seasons, and Arsenal and Liverpool are following him closely. While Simons, 22, is keen to make a career at PSG, the club may need to raise funds for other moves and consider him a valuable transfer.

Internazionale are monitoring the situation of Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa, according to Calciomercato. The Nerazzurri have been interested in the 27-year-old for “some time,” but any move hinges on whether they are able to offload both Joaquín Correa and Marko Arnautovic. Chiesa returned to training with the Reds this week, while AS Roma and AC Milan could also consider moves for him.

– An offer of around €30 million would be enough to persuade Borussia Dortmund to part ways with forward Donyell Malen in January, reports Sky Sports Deutschland’s Patrick Berger. Everton, Nottingham Forest, Brentford, and Crystal Palace are reported to be among the sides interested in the 25-year-old, but he would prefer to move to a top club in Europe. He has scored two goals in 11 Bundesliga matches this season.

EXPERT TAKE

ESPN’s Beth Lindop considers Liverpool’s possible interest in Jeremie Frimpong.

Frimpong has established himself as one of the finest wing-backs in Europe over the past couple of seasons and therefore it is unsurprising to see him linked with a host of top clubs, including Liverpool.

However, any potential move for the 23-year-old by Arne Slot’s side would hinge on a number of factors. Firstly, there is no guarantee that Trent Alexander-Arnold will actually leave the club next summer.

Liverpool’s vice-captain is one of three key players whose contract expires at the end of the season and, while there has so far been no breakthrough in negotiations, Slot’s side have not yet abandoned hopes of securing a new deal.

Even if Alexander-Arnold does depart — with Real Madrid being touted as his most likely destination — Liverpool already have a fine replacement within their ranks in Conor Bradley. The Northern Ireland international was sublime against Madrid, dealing admirably with Kylian Mbappé.

Should Alexander-Arnold leave the club, Bradley would be well within his rights to expect to be promoted to first-choice right-back. And, while Frimpong could certainly be coached to play in a back four, he appears to be better suited to playing as wing-back, which doesn’t really align with Slot’s playing style.
