DETROIT — Lions tight end Sam LaPorta is considered day-to-day with a left shoulder injury after being hurt during the second half of Sunday’s dramatic 26-23 comeback win at Houston.

Detroit coach Dan Campbell said Monday that he doesn’t anticipate LaPorta missing significant time but that he could be out for this week’s home game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Campbell described the injury as a sprained AC joint.

“I’m hopeful this week, but I can’t say that he’s questionable,” Campbell said of LaPorta.

LaPorta had three receptions for a team-high 66 receiving yards versus the Texans. He also connected with Lions quarterback Jared Goff on a 20-yard touchdown pass at 10:52 in the second quarter.

The Lions improved to 8-1 for the first time since 1954 after overcoming a 16-point halftime deficit and Goff throwing five interceptions, but LaPorta missed the fourth quarter.

“I don’t know how significant it will be. It’s not something like — this is not he’s going to be out four weeks, whatever. He might miss this week,” Campbell said after the game Sunday. “We’ll see. He’s got a little sprain in here, kind of the AC joint. He tried to go back in, and it wasn’t quite right. Didn’t quite feel right.”

In his second season, LaPorta has the Lions’ third-most receiving yards (366) with 25 receptions and three touchdowns. He earned Pro Bowl and second-team All-Pro honors as a rookie in 2023.
