In his statement he admits he did look at other options this transfer window but has committed his immediate future to the Bundesliga champions.
The statement, addressed to Leverkusen fans, reads: “Lately, there’s been a lot of speculation about me and my future. Some of it has not always been represented correctly, but I will certainly go into detail at some point.
“It is true that in the meantime I also checked other options, but now it is clear that I will complete the 10 years at Bayer 04! You can be sure that l’m very much looking forward to all challenges with our team, the coaching staff and you fans this season.
“I am a firm believer that we have a really strong squad again and can again provide memories in all competitions.
“But now, an end to all the speculation and full focus on the season 2024/25! I promise you that I will give everything this season to make us successful, just like I have for the past 9 years!”
