Mexico striker Santiago Giménez will remain at Feyenoord after a second bid from Premier League side Nottingham Forest fell through, a source has told ESPN.

Giménez made the personal decision to turn down Forest despite weeks of negotiations between the two sides.

Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen also recently expressed interest in the player, but with three days left in the summer transfer window, the forward is now expected to stay at Feyenoord for the first months of the season.

Feyenoord finished second in the Dutch Eredivisie last term with 84 points to earn a ticket to the Champions League, an enticing prospect for Giménez, given Forest will not take part in any European competition.

Giménez joined the Dutch side from Liga MX‘s Cruz Azul in July 2022 on a four-year contract and made an instant impact. In his first season, the forward won his place in the starting XI before netting 23 goals in 45 games across all competitions.

He propelled Feyenoord to the league title during that inaugural season, which inspired then-Mexico head coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino to hand him a call up to the national team. He now has 30 international caps.

He bettered that club tally last season, netting 23 goals in 30 games in Eredivisie.
